Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Why would an establishment need a Silipaktor™ if it already has a compactor?
Putting glass into a general waste compactor means reducing its efficiency by as much as half. Ordinary compactors are not designed to crush glass and the glass itself can be a robust material when surrounded by, for example, paper and cardboard. The Silipaktor™ glass-crusher enables an existing compactor to operate more efficiently, reducing general waste costs and enabling useful resources to be recycled.

What is to stop the Silipaktor™ spraying bits of glass everywhere?
The machine only works when the bin is in place - an automatic cutout activates if it is removed. The Silipaktor™ meets all relevant EU legislation and is CE marked.

How many people does it take to use it?
The Silipaktor™ is designed for one-person operation. The bins can be moved easily and lifted using standard equipment.

What sort of access is necessary?
GCS recommends a service lift or reasonably flat walkway because of the weight of the bins. The equipment is not suitable for use on stairs.

How much does it cost and what is the lead time?
The price of each Silipaktor™ unit varies according to the estimated throughput. Delivery time in the UK from placement of the order is in the region of eight to ten weeks. A finance facility is also offered for premises that prefer to lease the equipment.
